A CHOIR is hosting a beer festival with a patriotic theme.

Gledholt Male Voice Choir will have ten Real Ales on tap at the event at Marsh Liberal Club, which based on Abb Street.

The Beer Festival, which started yesterday and continues today will mark St George’s Day, which is on Monday.

Mike Senior, from Gledholt MVC, said the festival was later than in previous years.

“This is not a complete coincidence because this year’s festival will be celebrating St George’s Day which, the choir believes, is not celebrated enough.”

Choir members will unveil the Gledholt Guzzler III, brewed especially for the festival.

Today there will be a Big Sing with choir members hoping others will join them.

“No doubt, considering the theme of this year’s festival, this will include some songs of a patriotic nature and the audience will be expected to join in and help celebrate St George’s Day,” Mike added.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Hollybank Trust, a residential facility for people with additional needs which is based in Mirfield.

After the festival ends Gledholt MVC will then look ahead to their annual Gala Concert at Huddersfield Town Hall on Saturday, May 12.

Guests will be the Brighouse and Rastrick Band and Marsh Ladies Choir.

There will also be a tribute to the King – Elvis Presley – at the Piazza Centre during the daytime before the concert.
