GLEDHOLT Male Voice Choir has appointed Paul Iredale as its new musical director.

Paul's is not a new face among the Gledholt men. He stepped in to help out when the choir's previous conduct Malcolm Fairless was taken ill.

Malcolm stood down late last year after more than 30 years in the driving seat with Gledholt.

Choir officers are delighted with the new appointment and say that they look forward to a new phase of development under Paul's guidance.

Paul will continue his work with Marsh Ladies Choir and with a primary school choir that he nurtures in Bradford.

His young choir has appeared on Songs Of Praise and picked up festival trophies in Wharfedale. Paul began with Marsh Ladies as their accompanist before picking up the baton with them.

His first challenge in his new post is to polish the Gledholt men's preparations for the next big date in their calendar, the choir's annual gala concert at Huddersfield Town Hall.

The concert is on May 13 (7.15 pm) and the choir's guests will be the University of Huddersfield Big Band.

The choir's accompanist John Bailey will be featured on the organ and he will also accompany the choir on both piano and organ.
