That represents 22.8% of the total jobless tally for Kirklees of 17,600.

Hull topped the table of 15 local authority districts with 5,900 young people out of work, representing 28.5% out of a total of 16,400.

North East Lincolnshire followed with 23.7% youth unemployment – 3,300 out of 9,400.

Among West Yorkshire councils, Wakefield was fourth with 22.1% (6,800 out of 14.700); Calderdale was seventh with 21% (3,500 out of 7,900); Bradford was eighth at 20.7% (8,700 out of 22,400); and Leeds was 13th on 14.8% (11,200 out of 37,900).
