A GOLCAR couple who met at a dance have celebrated their diamond wedding.

Leslie and Rene Fleetwood met at Huddersfield Town Hall.

Mr Fleetwood was doing his national service in the Royal Navy at the time and the couple waited four years to marry.

They wed at All Hallow’s church, Almondbury.

The couple first went to live in Scarborough to help run the family’s fish and chip shop.

They then settled in Golcar at Scar Lane and later at Leymoor Road, where they have remained for 51 years.

Mr Fleetwood set up his own business as a credit draper collecting payments for drapery sales until he retired in his 70s.

He has also been a Honley Male Voice Choir member for 30 years.

Mrs Fleetwood worked at Lindley’s Wellington Mill as a mender before getting married. She later worked with her husband.

The couple have two children and four grandchildren.

They celebrated their 60 years together with a party at Meltham Golf Club.
