A man kicked his partner’s bottom in a row after her mother bought their children presents.

John Furey told police that he was “a 20” on a drunk scale of one to 10 at the time of the attack.

The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to assault when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

The row between Furey and his partner Tracey Marsden broke out on November 21 at their home in Bradley Mills.

Rory Byrne, prosecuting, said: “When her mother returned with the four children she brought back some presents with her.

“This sparked an argument between the defendant and his partner. He believed she’d requested her mum to buy these presents and that angered him.”

As the argument spiralled out of control, Miss Marsden called her mum who then called police.

Furey, of Elmfield Avenue in Golcar, had left by the time police arrived but later returned to the property.

Mr Byrne said: “He kicked and banged on the door and the argument continued.

“The defendant said: ‘I know your mother called police - I’m going to kill her and your family’.

“He called her (Miss Marsden) a b***h and she ran past him in fear of her safety.

“Mr Furey then kicked Miss Marsden in the bottom.”

Paul Blanchard, mitigating said that his client had a vague recollection of the incident as he had been drinking.

Mr Blanchard added that the couple were breaking up at the time and have now separated.

District Judge Michael Fanning ordered a probation report ahead of his sentencing on December 30.

In the meantime Furey is banned from contacting Miss Marsden or going to her address in Town Avenue.
