A group is taking on the running of a community centre.

The 4th Huddersfield Golcar Scout Group secured the asset transfer of Golcar Community Centre and will manage the Manor Road building and land.

Craig Ellis, group Scout leader, said: “Kirklees Council’s decision to agree to a full asset transfer of the centre to 4th Huddersfield Golcar Scout Group is great news for scouting and a massive step forward for the community of Golcar.

“The Scouts make a huge impact within the local community, most recently showcased during Scout Community Week in June, when the Scouts built planters and worked on the community gardens.”

Steve Ruscoe, of the Community Centre Building Committee, added: “Since we took over the running and managing of the centre on a 10-year lease agreement we have invested a huge amount of money in improving the facilities and appearance of the centre, including creating a meeting and training room, installing a brand new kitchen, building a car park for all the users of the centre and improving access and facilities for users with disabilities.”

Clr Graham Turner, Cabinet member for resources, said: “This is indicative of things to come as the community look to take over facilities more in the future.”
