Grandmother Julie Holroyd had just the thing when one of her grandsons wanted a cool drink.

But she was horrified when his Capri Sun tropical drink had a couple of extra ingredients that he had not bargained for - two tiny insects.

They were discovered when the four-year-old said he didn’t like the taste and Mrs Holroyd poured the drink out into a glass.

Now an investigation is to be launched by the UK distributors, Coca Cola, who work with manufacturers Kraft Foods.

Mrs Holroyd said: “I spotted the insects straight away. One stuck to the side of the glass and the other was floating in the drink

“I dread to think what could have happened if he had drunk it.”

The youngster and his little brother were being looked after at her Golcar home by Mrs Holroyd.

She said: “He came in and said he was thirsty so I went to get a drink.

“I had bought the drinks at the Sainsbury’s Shore Head store and I got one out of the fridge

“I opened the pouch for him but he took only a little drink and said: `I don’t want this, it tastes funny.

“Normally I would have said to him not to silly and to finish it but I remembered I had read something a few weeks ago about Capri Sun.

“I went on the internet and found the story I had seen before, about black mould being found in one of the pouches of Capri Sun.

“I took the drink off him and poured it into a glass and spotted the insects. They are tiny but they are clearly insects”.

Mrs Holroyd, of New Street, Golcar, got in touch with Coca Cola about the drink and said they took it very seriously.

“They have told me they will send special packaging so I can send the pouch and the insects on to them and have promised a full investigation.

“I was horrified to think the little lad could have swallowed the insects”.

A spokesman for the firm said they would investigate thoroughly.
