EUROPEAN Eventing Team Gold Medallist Oliver Townend, originally from Huddersfield, is coming back to Woodnook Arena, Honley, on December 1st to give a demonstration for Holme Valley Riding Club.
Oliver was a former member of the Club and was part of their junior eventing team in 1994 and 1995. Oliver has since gone on to have a hugely successful career in eventing, but will be coming back along with some of his horses to give tips and advice.
The club has recently hosted many events with top riders, open to both for members and non members. Last night was the turn of top dressage rider Becky Moody to give a demonstration, and this Sunday, November 3rd, Sue Chadwick will host a cross country clinic.
Sue, from Crosland Moor, is also a top event rider and regularly competes at events such as those at Bramham and Chatsworth. She is also a well known and well respected local instructor, so will have a lot of great tips to pass on about how to ride the perfect cross country round.
The club’s current members are still enjoying continued success. In October, two teams and one individual went to a team dressage competition run by Selby and District Riding Club. The Purple team came first and the Yellow team came 4th. Nicola Mellor, part of the Purple team also won the individual elementary class.
Jann Crossland, Club Chairman, says, “This success is the result of the many hours of training put on by the club for our members throughout winter/spring. We have already started training for the 2008 competitions, running flatwork and jumping sessions 3 nights and Saturday mornings each week.”
