West Yorkshire Police’s forensics unit are being given a run for their money - by Gomersal Primary School.

Super science sleuths at the school are spending this week cracking a very high profile case with Skelmanthorpe-based forensics experts Think Forensic, after winning the Future Minds competition.

The year one students will learn different techniques used by real crime scene officers to solve their own mystery based on the fairy tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

The sharp young minds began yesterday on their quest to crack the famous mystery of who ate the porridge with finger printing, show print analysis and chromatography.

The course is being led by trained science teacher Debbie Lumb.

Think Forensic Managing Director Sue Proctor said: “We are keen to develop the enquiring mind of four and five years olds for the first time as the company usually works with older children.

“The programme ‘Future Minds’ is specifically designed to cater for younger children with simple techniques.

“It also ambitiously promotes problem solving, communicating ideas, listening skills, numeracy and literacy.”
