THE Community Chest involves 10 deserving groups bidding for a slice of a £15,000 bonanza.
This year the chest is bigger than ever, offering almost £5,000 more than last year. It has been sponsored by Barclays Bank, which has a main branch in Huddersfield town centre and other offices in Milnsbridge, Fartown, Holmfirth and Skelmanthorpe.
All 10 organisations are now being profiled in the Examiner and then the real business of voting slip collecting starts on Monday with the organisations amassing the most votes being given cash. Organisations shortlisted can enlist family and friends to collect voting slips.
The public will be asked to vote on which causes they think are most deserving by collecting the slips and taking them to their nearest Barclays branch, participating newsagents, the Examiner office on Queen Street South, just outside Huddersfield town centre, or posting them to our office.
Over 60,000 tokens were sent in last year and the overall winners were the Friends Of Beaumont Park.
THE 10 organisations this year are:
Burton Out Of School Club in Highburton
Thongsbridge Junior Cricket Club
Huddersfield Astronomical And Philosophical Society
Colne, Holme and Dearne Valley Society For The Blind
Longwood Village Group
Shepley First School
Huddersfield Otters
Huddersfield Pregnancy Crisis
15th Huddersfield (St Hilda’s) Cowcliffe Scout Group
