RECORD numbers are expected when churches hold their Good Friday walk in Huddersfield.

The walk attracted over 200 people last year and organisers are hoping to top the figure this time.

The Rev Catherine Ogle, vicar of Huddersfield, said: "This is a powerful and moving experience for those who take part.

"Good Friday is a day to consider the profound questions of life.

"As we journey around the town, we stop to reflect on Jesus' journey and we pray for different aspects of the life of the town."

The walk starts at 9.45am from Huddersfield Parish Church on Byram Street.

The walk will stop first at Market Place, where prayers will be said for the vitality of the town.

Then a stop will be made at the corner of Cloth Hall Street, where prayers will be said for commerce and finance.

Next, the walkers will stop at Huddersfield Bus Station to pray for transport workers.

Then they will move on to the police station and register office on Albion Street, where they will pray for police officers, court workers and married people.

Next, they will stop at Huddersfield Town Hall on Ramsden Street, to pray for the local council and those involved in art and learning.

Walkers will then gather outside Boots chemist shop on King Street, where they will pray for people working in retail and leisure.

The final stop will be back at Huddersfield Parish Church, where the walkers will say prayers for the unity of the church.
