SHE admits she has never won anything before.

But now grandmother Iris Hamer is planning to treat her two granddaughters after scooping a free holiday abroad.

Young Katie, 5 and Lucy Brennan, 9, think their granny is the best granny ever.

The Crosland Moor gran picked the winning raffle ticket in Kirkwood Hospice’s Summer Sparkle Raffle.

The 73-year-old will now choose where to spend her free week – in Cyprus, Majorca or Minorca.

Mrs Hamer said: “I’m absolutely delighted.

“I’m not the sort of person who wins things.

“I’m very lucky to have won and I consider myself very fortunate.

“I think it’s so generous of the hospice and Villa Parade who have donated the prize.”

Iris will take her two granddaughters, her daughter Louise, 47, and son–in–law Chris on the trip.

The Dalton hospice is also donating £500 to the cost of the family’s flights.

When Iris, a former financial services secretary, found out she had won she called daughter Louise straight away to tell her the good news.

She said: “It’s so wonderful to have won – but it’s better that my family can share the holiday with me.

“It isn’t just something for me, it’s something that we’re all going to enjoy.

“My granddaughters said I was the greatest granny there ever was.”

Iris added: “The hospice is such a good thing to have in the town and supporting it is worthwhile thing.”
