A SCOUT HQ which became the target of local vandals has been given a cash boost by freemasons.

Kirkheaton Scouts and Guides appealed for help to repair damage caused to their Moorside Road base after vandals wrecked the roof and fencing around the property.

Scout leaders contacted the Colne Valley Lodge asking for help and were presented with £1,000 at their last gathering.

Robert Shaw, the lodge’s charity steward, said: “I received a letter from the Scouts and Guides asking if the lodge could offer any money assistance because they had trouble with vandals and part of their roof of the building where they hold their meetings had been damaged.

“Also, fencing had been torn down by the vandals and they asked if there was anything we could do to help them.”

The lodge secured a £1,000 grant from the West Riding Provisional Grand Master’s Fund, which they presented to the Scouts and Guides.

Mr Shaw added: “This fund is used to reward worthy groups who appeal for financial assistance.

“In this case we were delighted to be able to offer assistance to what we think it a very worthy cause.”
