A GRANGE Moor couple have celebrated their golden wedding.

James and Rita Mowatt were married at Huddersfield Register Office on February 25, 1961.

They fell in love after arranging a first date at the Regal Cinema in Moldgreen.

After they were married the couple lived at Grange Moor, before moving toMoldgreen and Kirkheaton before finally settling back in Grange Moor at Whitley Way.

Mr Mowatt trained as an electrician and worked at both Brook Motors and Hopkinsons.

Before retiring, he worked for JT Ellis furniture manufacturers in Moldgreen.

Mrs Mowatt worked in the offices of Brook Motorson the switchboard and later in customer services.

Mr Mowatt served as a Kirkheaton ward councillor on Huddersfield council for three years from 1971.

He also played football with several local teams as well as cricket for Lepton Highlanders and Brook Motors.

He enjoys gardening and travelling.

The couple have two children and a granddaughter.

They celebrated their anniversary with meals with family and friends.
