A TEENAGER was tied up in his own home and assaulted in a terrifying daylight burglary.

The 19-year-old man was attacked at his house in Grange Moor after he challenged two men purporting to be from the gas board.

The suspects, a white man and a black man, both thought to be in their mid 30s, had called at the house off Wakefield Road at 10.50am on Tuesday.

The pair tried to dupe the occupant into letting them in the premises and the white man spoke to the victim with a fake Irish accent.

When he refused to let them in, the second suspect stuck a foot in the door and the pair got into the property.

The 19-year-old was tied up and hit in the face.

The kitchen of the upmarket home near the National Mining Museum was searched, but police said nothing was stolen.

The victim managed to struggle free after being tied up for almost half-an-hour and was able to call the police.

Det Con Mick Cummings, from Huddersfield CID, said the terrifying incident was a worrying development from the usually non-violent gas or water board con-artists as there appeared to be no motive.

The first suspect is described as white, in his mid 30s of a stocky build and 5ft 8ins tall. He has short ginger hair, a pointed nose at the end, thin lips and had not shaved for a couple of days.

He spoke with what was believed to be a fake Irish accent and was wearing a black waist-length raincoat, black trousers and black slip on shoes.

The second suspect is described as black, in his mid 30s, 6ft 2ins tall and of medium build.

He has dark coloured shaved hair, was clean shaven and dirty teeth.

He was wearing a black waist-length raincoat.

Any witnesses are asked to contact Det Con Cummings at Huddersfield CID on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
