A GRANT of £2,500 has been awarded to Holmfirth Film Festival.

The money has come from Screen Yorkshire which distributes Lottery funds on behalf of the British Film Institute.

The Holmfirth festival has just enjoyed a successful second year.

It was held in May and celebrates the Holme Valley town’s legacy at the forefront of the silent movie industry when local photographer James Bamforth began to produce short films in the late 19th century.

Actress Rita Tushingham was the star guest as the festival screened her film A Taste of Honey 50 years after it was made.
