A MILKMAN is running the London Marathon to say a massive thank you to specialist nurses who helped his wife.

Keith Dodsley and his friend David James, both of Waterloo, will be tackling the world-famous race for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

And he has urged anyone who thinks highly of the work done by Macmillan nurses to help by sponsoring him.

Keith's wife, Dianne, was featured in the Examiner last summer after her brave fight against cancer and the superbug MRSA almost killed her.

She battled against non-Hodgkinson's lymphoma and was then struck down by MRSA and ended up in a coma, which lasted two weeks, in the intensive care unit at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Miraculously Dianne, who has three children, survived and the cancer is now in remission, but she has never forgotten the kindness and dedication of Macmillan cancer nurse Julie-Anne Carter who cared for her.

She said: "I don't know what I would have done without her.

"The advice and support she gave was marvellous. I could ring her up about anything and she would be there for me."

Dianne, 48, is a member of Huddersfield Cancer Support which is run by Margaret Revitt and meets at Peregrine House in Brooks Yard off Market Street in Huddersfield town centre every Wednesday lunchtime.

It is a self-help group for cancer sufferers and their relatives.

Dianne and Keith have also taken up ballroom dancing.

Keith - a milkman in Wakefield who has never tackled a marathon before - is now running around nine miles each evening training for the marathon in the capital on April 17.

The 49-year-old said: "I aim to go at a nice steady pace. I want to enjoy the event, but also raise as much as I possibly can for Macmillan Cancer Relief."
