GRAVE robbers have struck again, but this time at Slaithwaite Cemetery.

The thieves took stones from the side of three graves at the cemetery, off Manchester Road, before a passer-by disturbed them.

Police are now appealing for information on the incident between 7 and 7.45am on Friday .

Two crooks wearing high-visibility jackets loaded the stones into a waiting vehicle.

They were driven away in a white van by a third man, also in a high- visibility vest.

A witness recalled part of the van's registration as K338 W.

Det Con Russ Conlon, of Kirklees Police intelligence unit, said: "We want to bring these people to justice as soon as possible. Any information that can assist us will be greatly appreciated."

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or ring police on 01484 436659.

Last week the Examiner reported more than 100 stones had been stolen from graves in Edgerton Cemetery.

Dozens of ornamental lintels and kerbstones were taken in a wave of attacks between February 15 and March 10.

Mrs Susan Kelly, 58, of Almondbury, whose grandparents' grave was among those targeted, condemned the thieves as disgusting.

She said: "I can imagine how devastated other families who have experienced this must feel.

"I wonder how these thieves would feel if the same thing happened to their parents' graves."
