Grease is the word in Holmfirth where a school’s annual production of a show based on the film is in full swing - helped by half a car from a scrapyard.

Holmfirth High School has its own motor vehicle department, including garage, where pupils can study and earn a mechanic’s qualification.

The school got half a car from a scrap yard, and the bonnet, windscreen and front wheels have been restored, painted and polished to transform it into a replica of the car in the film.

The school’s head of drama, Alex Archer, who is directing the show, said: “We are very lucky to have the facilities at the motor vehicle engineering room.

“Basically, we got half a car from a junk yard, and it has been transformed so it’s as close to the car in the film as possible.”

There are 170 pupils, aged from 11 to 16, taking part in the production.

Mr Archer said: “We have a massive cast, which is proving interesting, but we are pretty much there now.

“We stage the school musical every year, at about the same time, although the work begins in July as there is so much to do.

“It’s a very big production and one we all enjoy very much.”

There will be five performances of the show, with one each night from Wednesday, January 27, to the following Saturday, plus a matinee on the Saturday afternoon.
