A MAN from Holmfirth has achieved his dream by becoming a Royal Marine Commando.

Joseph Phillips, pictured, 20, of Station Road, received the prestigious Green Beret in the passing out parade of the King's Squad Royal Marines on November 10.

For the past nine months, Mr Phillips has been based at The Royal Marines Commando Training Centre in Lympstone, Devon.

He is now stationed with the Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines, at Helensburgh, in Scotland.

In order to earn his title, Mr Phillips had to undergo an extremely tough and arduous period of progressive training which pushed him to the limit both mentally and physically."

The new Royal Marine Commando is a former pupil of Nab Junior School, Holmfirth High School, and Huddersfield Technical College.

He is a keen sportsman looking forward to the challenge of being in The Royal Marines.

He said: "I feel very honoured to be a Royal Marine. The training was very tough, but the effort I put in was more than worth it!"
