A POPULAR sports club has been given the green light to open to non-members and to run community fun days.

Huddersfield YMCA asked Kirklees Council for permission to change the licence of its premises on New Hey Road in Salendine Nook.

The club wanted to serve alcohol until 11pm from Sunday to Thursday and up to 1am on Friday and Saturday.

But its bid for later opening hours was denied.

It will now be allowed to serve alcohol until 11.30pm on Fridays and midnight on Saturdays but only until 10pm on Sundays.

The opening hours are to stay the same as they currently are, half-an-hour after alcohol sales stop.

Councillors also put strict conditions on a plan for a community fun day which includes the purchase of new sound monitoring equipment.

The club must also have marshals on site and signs to direct people to parking.

They also instructed that and broken fencing has to be repaired.
