A PIONEERING co-operative celebrates its second birthday this week.

Green Valley Grocer was set up in Slaithwaite in July, 2009.

More than 50 local growers, three beekeepers and two cake-makers supply the Carr Lane shop.

Green Valley Grocer, which last month expanded to twice its previous size, is celebrating its birthday tomorrow and on Saturday.

There will be local produce to sample, including cheeses from the grocer’s new deli counter, birthday cake and fruit juices.

Shop manager Carol Wood said: “As a thank you to all our wonderful customers we’re entering them in a draw for a deli-hamper, to be drawn 2pm on Saturday.”

The Handmade Bakery moved out of the back room of the shop and in to larger premises in the village in May – giving the grocer’s room to expand.
