Bakery retailer Greggs is looking to open a shop in Birchencliffe.

The chain has applied for planning consent to take over a unit on Halifax Road at Birchencliffe, next door to the new Tesco store that opened.

Greggs Plc need permission for signs, window graphics and two air conditioning units and extractor grilles at the unit.

Little other detail is included within the application to Kirklees Council, but if permission is granted by the council the bakery chain will move into the vacant unit.

Tesco opened in November 2014 on the site that was once the Grey Horse pub.

The Greggs application is open to public comments via Kirklees Council until August 11.

There are six Greggs shops in and around Huddersfield – four in Huddersfield town centre, one at Aspley and one on Leeds Road and one in Ravensthorpe.
