She has taken her fight for justice to the very top.

A mother whose 17-year-old son was killed in a horror crash in Huddersfield has handed her petition for justice to No.10.

Linda Hawker and her daughters, Leander and Paige, handed the petition of 2,260 signatures to Downing Street, this week.

The family, their barrister Naeem Siraj and Wakefield MP Mary Creagh are hoping to get justice for Daniel Atkinson.

Daniel and Jade Rice, also 17, were killed in an 80mph crash on Bradley Road, Bradley, in 2006.

Despite driving at double the speed limit, the teenagers’ live-in carer Mohammed Tanwir was never convicted of an offence relating to the accident, despite a coroner ruling that the pair had been unlawfully killed.

Tanwir was cleared of failing to stop during a trial at Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court after a judge ruled there was insufficient evidence to charge him with causing death by dangerous driving.

A request for further legal action was turned down by the then Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer QC in 2010.

Of the trip to No.10, Ms Hawker said: “It went really well. We got 2,260 signatures and we were very pleased with the effort.”

Mrs Hawker and her supporters spent many hours collecting signatures for the petition in shopping centres in Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Halifax.

The family will now have to wait a couple of weeks to see if No.10 will action the petition.

Ms Hawker said: “It’s just a waiting game.

“I’m anxious thinking about how everything will go.

“Everyone has been really brilliant, especially Mr Siraj. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without him.”
