THE parents of a teenager who was killed in a road accident have set up a fund in memory of their beloved daughter.

Bev and Steve Gough, from Brighouse, were devastated after their daughter Naomi was killed on January 10. She was only 19 and her parents vowed to make something positive come out of their loss.

They formed the Naomi Cheri Gough Memorial Fund in conjunction with Brighouse charity Support and Care After Road Death and Injury (Scard).

They will launch it on December 1, Naomi’s birthday.

They hope to help other bereaved parents whose children are killed in such a tragic way.

Naomi, a former Brighouse High School pupil, was killed when her Renault Clio hit a barrier on Burdock Way near Halifax town centre.

She had just enjoyed a day trip to Blackpool and was on her way to work.

Her parents found the emotional turmoil caused by her death difficult to deal with.

Steve Gough, Naomi’s father, said: “Losing Naomi was an unnatural situation and I was thinking this shouldn’t be happening to us.

“I really hope we never have to use this fund, because it means another family isn’t going through what we did.

“But we are here if people do need us. Even though we may not be able to help a lot, every bit will help.”

The family have raised the money through a series of events in Naomi’s memory, including a three-day sponsored walk from Halifax to Blackpool.

Mr Gough added: “Naomi was such a popular person. She had so many friends who wanted to do something for her. This will help us keep her memory alive and help other people.”

Families in Kirklees and Calderdale who lose a loved one aged 17 to 25 on the roads will be able to ask for help from the fund.
