COMMUNITY groups are in the money.

Nineteen organisations are being awarded cash from Kirklees Council's Arts in the Neighbourhood scheme.

They share more than £17,000.

The Colne Valley Trust gets £1,500 to develop ideas for a sculpture trail.

The trail is inspired by the River Colne.

It is planned to start at Marsden and follow the valley downstream to Milnsbridge, through Slaithwaite and Linthwaite.

Huddersfield Arts Council gets the same sum to stage an arts weekend.

Shelley Community Association wins £500 towards live music events.

Groups can get between £150 and £2,000 from Arts in the Neighbourhood.

Spokesman Tony James said the awards showed the scheme's value in developing, encouraging and capitalising on the area's cultural diversity.

The closing date for application for money from the next round of awards is August 2.
