OPERA fans are invited to free public performances in Huddersfield town centre.

Huddersfield Creative Arts Network and Huddersfield Youth Opera have joined forces to present Mozart and Salieri, in what they term a “guerilla-style” opera.

Scene 1 will be outside the George Hotel in St George’s Square, and scene 2 outside the nearby Head of Steam.

The performances are this Saturday and the following Saturday at 2.30pm.

Graffiti artist Oliver Smith has painted costumes for the production and they have been made by Huddersfield University students.

Janet Cowley is the artistic director and Gordon Balmforth musical director.

Mozart and Salieri is a short opera by Rimsky Korsakov sung in English about the jealousy that Salieri supposedly had for the genius musician Mozart.
