Masked gunmen robbed a terrified couple in their eighties in Dewsbury.

The couple, both aged 81, were forced to hand over cash.

Police have now stepped up patrols after the attack in South Street, Savile Town, on Monday evening.

The incident occurred around 8.50pm when four masked men forced entry to the property, and threatened the occupants with guns.

All were wearing dark clothing and masks, were of stocky build and spoke English.

Det Insp George Bardell of Kirklees CID said; “This has clearly been a frightening experience for the victims and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area yesterday evening and may have seen or heard anything suspicious to come forward.

“We are aware of community concerns that Asian families are being targeted. We would like to reiterate that although some Asian families have been the victims others are from different ethnic origins and we do not feel there is a racial motivation to these crimes.
