Gym owner Ben Bamforth has issued a charity fitness challenge to the people of Huddersfield – as he prepares to take part in a national contest.

Ben was crowned Mr West Yorkshire in May at the regional finals of the Mr England contest in Sheffield.

Now he’s set to strut his stuff in the Mr England grand final, which takes place on Thursday, August 13, at Coventry’s Ricoh Stadium.

Ben, who owns The Unit Fitness in Honley, is one of 20 regional winners taking part in the competition, which is run by the same company which organises the Miss England contest.

Supporters can vote for Ben – with votes counting as one of the judges – by texting MRENGLAND02 to 63333 between now and 8pm on the night of the final.

Before all that, the 25-year-old is hoping to raise a weighty sum for cancer charity Macmillan by inviting gym members and members of the public to take part in a sponsored fitness session at the gym in Crossley Mills, New Mill Road.

Those taking part will be challenged to complete “circuits” of the gym using equipment such as cross-trainers, pull-up bars, weights and step boxes.

The fundraising effort will take place from 9am on Saturday, July 25, when the cash raised through sponsorship will be swelled by the proceeds of protein shakes and cakes sold on the day.

Ben, of Honley, a professionally trained and qualified personal trainer, who also works for a modelling agency, decided to support Macmillan because he lost his father Stuart to cancer 12 years ago.

Ben opened The Unit Fitness in April this year in premises previously occupied by the Warehouse gym. The gym has been refitted to feature the latest functional fitness equipment to help people lose weight, keep fit or build muscle.
