A hair salon owner was grabbed by the wrist during a robbery in Grange Moor and forced to hand over cash.

The woman,had just locked up her shop in Briestfield Road, when she was approached by a man who shouted ‘Give me the money’.

He then grabbed her wrist when she turned to cling tightly to a shoulder bag containing the £511 takings.

A struggle broke out between the pair as the owner refused to hand over the cash and her colleague also tried to get the man off her.

But the man ripped the bag from her and fled. One of the pair chased the suspect but did not catch him.

The pair were shaken but otherwise uninjured.

The robbery happened at 7.40pm last night at the Streakers Hair Salon.

The owner had been walking to her car parked a short distance from the shop when the incident happened.

Police are now investigating the incident and appealing for anyone who may have seen what happened.

Det Insp Mark Walker, of Huddersfield CID, said: “Police were called to a robbery at Streakers Hair Salon at 7.40pm.

“Two female complainants had left the premises and were walking to the owner’s car as they were approached by a white male who demanded takings.

“A struggle broke out but the suspect managed to grab the shoulder bag containing the takings and fled.”

“We would ask anyone who was in the area who saw what happened to get in touch.

“Enquiries are at an early stage and we will be looking at CCTV in the area.”
