HUDDERSFIELD man Richard Jones is preparing to lose his locks in a charity head shave - to help people like his mum.

Richard, 25, of Crosland Moor, is to have his head shaved to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK.

He is taking the step in support of his mother, Margaret, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer last June.

Margaret, 50, of Netherton, has been undergoing several types of chemotherapy ever since.

Richard said: "She's had an operation, but it didn't remove all the cancer so she's having chemotherapy.

"She has been very ill with it.

"It has caused her hair to fall out and so, in support of my much- loved mum and to raise awareness of the disease, I decided to lose my hair, too."

Richard will be shaving off his hair next Friday at Sainsbury's Shore Head store, where he is an assistant grocery department manager.

He is hoping people will come along to watch and give money on the day.

But Richard is not the only member of his family raising money.

His twin, Natalie, older sister Sarah and his girlfriend, Michelle Horner, are all taking part in the Cancer Research UK Race for Life at Greenhead Park on June 17.

Richard said they are all keen to raise awareness as well as cash.

He said: "Bowel cancer can affect anyone, but I didn't know anything about it until mum was diagnosed.

"We just want to let as many people as possible know about the disease."
