THE RSPCA in Huddersfield is offering half price microchipping for pets during RSPCA week.

The procedure, costing £12.50, makes pets easily traced if they are lost and found.

Jane Robinson, trustee at Huddersfield RSPCA, said: “Animals come into our care from many sources, but in the case of stray or injured pets it can be very difficult to trace their owners even through advertising.

“In the case of injured pets, although emergency treatment is given, valuable time is often lost trying to find the owner to decide ongoing treatment.

She added: “Any dog or cat outside the home can be frightened by a noise or other animal, take flight and soon become lost.

“It makes sense to microchip – a one-off payment that lasts the lifetime of your pet and will help to reunite you if it is ever lost, stolen or injured.’’

Anyone wishing to microchip their cats, dogs or rabbits should make an appointment from April 27 to May 3, at any of the participating vets in Huddersfield: Anrich at Aspley and Donaldson and Partners in Aspley, Thongsbridge and Birchencliffe along with West Mount in Paddock.

The microchipping will be £12.50 – around half the usual price – which will include a free health check.

Huddersfield RSPCA will be collecting pet food and money at Huddersfield’s Tesco supermarket on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2.

The Co-operative in Holmfirth has a permanent food collection for the branch.
