The offence happened at Queensgate on October 1, shortly after 4pm.

Holmes lost control of his Volkswagen Golf, which left the carriageway and collided with some railings on the central reservation.

Police who went to the scene could smell alcohol on his breath and arrested him.

Holmes, of Elderberry Drive, Halifax, had 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

District Judge Michael Fanning banned him from driving for 16 months.

He must also pay £460 fine, £85 costs and £46 victim surcharge.
