Campaigners are fighting hard to have the potential closure of Huddersfield's A&E debated in Parliament.

A petition to 'prevent the closure of Huddersfield A&E department' has been set up and needs 100,000 signatures to be considered by MPs.

The petition text reads: "Huddersfield is one of the largest towns in northern England, the proposal is the closure of our A&E department and to move services to Halifax.

"The road infrastructure will cause delays and potentially deaths and it would cause a strain services within Halifax A&E."

Karl Deitch, who runs a security business in Huddersfield, set up a Facebook page Let’s Save HRI after hearing of the plans last Friday lunchtime. Within hours the page had more than 30,000 members, and it currently has almost 40,000 signed up.
