Colne Valley folk are leading the fight to save Huddersfield’s A&E.
A petition lodged with the Government has now raised almost 37,000 signatures.
Exclusive analysis by the Examiner shows that 12,891 of these people live in Colne Valley – one third of those who have signed.
Huddersfield Royal Infirmary is on the border with the Huddersfield constituency but is technically in the Colne Valley electoral boundary.
Currently 8,414 signatories live in the constituency of Huddersfield itself.
Understandably the petition is dominated by support from West Yorkshire.
The other constituencies where more than 1,000 people have put their names to the appeal are Dewsbury and Calder Valley.
The most sympathetic area outside Yorkshire to the petition is Oldham East and Saddleworth – just over the border between West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.
People have apparently signed the petition from as far away as Malaysia, Laos and Luxembourg, according to the data.
If the petition reaches 100,000 signatures, it has to be considered for a debate.
Previous petitions Parliament has debated include whether or not to ban Donald Trump from entering Britain, whether to legalise cannabis and airstrikes against Islamic State in Syria.
