The fight to save Huddersfield’s A&E has gone global.

Huddersfield ex-pats from around the world have been showing their support for the campaign to save Huddersfield Royal Infirmary’s accident and emergency department, with the help of the the Let’s Save Huddersfield A&E Facebook group.

From Iraq to the USA, Australia to Hong Kong, former Huddersfield residents have been taking pictures of themselves from wherever they are, holding up placards with the #HandsOffHRI slogan.

Many have also added the words ‘Born in Huddersfield’ to show their pride for their hometown — and their concern about what could happen to its hospital.

The Right Care Right Time Right Place plan could close full A&E services at HRI.

If hospital shake-up plans go ahead, emergency care will be transferred to Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax, and the existing HRI demolished and replaced with a smaller hospital.

The Let’s Save Huddersfield A&E group has hosted a town centre rally, projected #HandsOffHRI onto iconic Huddersfield buildings and have attracted more than 46,000 members in just a few weeks.
