A cartoonist has done his bit to raise awareness of the threat to A&E.

Shepley’s Dave Bradbury has drawn an image satirising health chiefs’ proposals which consider moving emergency care to Halifax.

The drawing mocks NHS managers’ for apparently prioritising private financiers over public health care.

It has been reported that a £773m “PFI” mortgage on Calderdale Royal Hospital is a key reason behind the plans to move A&E care away from Huddersfield.

Dave, who is also famous for his stone sculpting, said: “The cartoon is designed to raise people’s awareness in a humorous way. It’s to wake people up to what’s going on. I think most people in Huddersfield aren’t always alert to these issues.

“My stuff is usually quite soft humour but I’m annoyed that things keep being taken away from Huddersfield.

“If they’re going to take anything away take the middle managers but don’t affect the people who need healthcare.

“It’s really irritating me so that’s why I’ve joined in the campaign.”
