PARALYMPIC gold medalist Hannah Cockroft will be the guest of honour at a young people’s sporting event next month.

More than 1,000 competitors from schools across Kirklees will be attending a string of events for the West Yorkshire Sainsbury’s School Games.

Hannah, 20, from Halifax, won two gold medals in the T34 100m and 200m sprints at the London 2012 Paralympics last year.

She will be attending the event at Leeds Metropolitan University, Headingley on March 8.

The pupils will compete in 11 sports at the culmination of their school’s competitions.

Chief Executive of West Yorkshire Sport, the County Sports Partnership, Nigel Harrison said: “The games are a fantastic way of giving our future athletes a taste of a major sporting event.”
