Smash hit TV drama Happy Valley is in line for more awards.

And the show’s writer, Huddersfield-born Sally Wainwright, is also recognised in the prestigious Royal Television Society awards.

There is also a nomination for another show with Huddersfield connections.

Peaky Blinders, the 1920s gangster drama, is in line for an award.

For best actress, Happy Valley (BBC1) star Sarah Lancashire is pitted against Sheridan Smith for her role as singer Cilla Black in the ITV biopic Cilla, and Georgina Campbell in the moving, true-story BBC3 drama Murdered By My Boyfriend.

Happy Valley is also up for best drama series, where it faces competition from hard-hitting Birmingham gang drama Peaky Blinders and police corruption drama Line Of Duty, both on BBC2.

Happy Valley was written by Wainwright and set in Yorkshire.

Some of the filming was done in Huddersfield and also in Calderdale.

A second series of the hit drama has already been commissioned from Wainwright, who is now recognised as one of the country’s top writers.

She is up against Jimmy McGovern, for Common (BBC1), and Peter Bowker, for Marvellous (BBC2), in the best drama writer section.

Peaky Blinders saw some scenes shot at Armitage Bridge Mills, while Huddersfield twins Jeff and Matt Postlethwaite made their screen debuts together by appearing in the drama.

They played gang members Nipper and Henry.

There is also a nomination for former Bretton Hall drama students Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, in the comedy section for Inside No. 9 (BBC2)

The winners - including recipients of the judges’ award and lifetime achievement award - will be announced at a ceremony on March 17 in London.
