HUNDREDS of people are expected to flock to the Harden Moss Sheepdog Trials this weekend.

The trials, off the Greenfield Road, above Holmfirth , ran yesterday, and will be on again today and tomorrow.

And large crowds are expected tomorrow for a big fun day which culminates in the Supreme Championship for sheepdogs from across the country.

Yesterday’s first day of local trials was a welcome relief for organisers. They had to cancel the last two days of last year’s show because of torrential rain which turned the showground into a quagmire.

One of the organisers Helen Jubb said: “This is the 102nd year of the show and last year was only the third time we have had to cancel. One was because of the war and one because of foot and mouth.

“We have a host of events lined up for the weekend and hopefully some good trials, with more than 200 dogs”.
