A WALLET was stolen from a house shortly after a salesman called door to door.

The hawker did not sell anything at the home in New Road, Netherthong, at lunchtime on Saturday because the 52-year-old woman at the house had no change.

A short time later she heard the kitchen door bang and her wallet, which had been left in the kitchen, was gone.

The salesman was white, aged about 20, 5ft 9in and slim with short fair hair.

He wore a light- coloured jacket and white trainers.

Sgt Tim O'Sullivan, of Huddersfield police, said: "We would urge people to keep their doors locked at all times.

"Such a simple crime prevention measure can stop so many opportunistic offences."
