A COMMUNITY school has bid a fond farewell to its headteacher.

Mrs Joan Rock has said goodbye to Rawthorpe St James CofE Infant and Nursery School, where she has been headteacher for the past 11 years,

Mrs Rock took the post at Rawthorpe after many years of teaching.

School bursar Pauline Brook said: “Mrs Rock has been instrumental in bringing about school improvements and transforming it to the outstanding and successful school it is today.

“She firmly believed that the school was at the heart of community life and embraced parents and families as a part of the school ethos.”

She was presented with a bouquet of flowers by her pupils at a leaving assembly.

She also received retirement gifts as a token of appreciation from staff and governors for the many years of dedication she has shown to the school.

Mrs Rock is planning to spend her retirement with more time to devote to her hobby of singing in a local choir and holidaying abroad.
