A NEW walk-in health centre is opening its doors in Kirklees.

The centre, on the Dewsbury and District Hospital site, will offer a speedy service for hundreds of patients.

It is expected it will treat minor health problems without appointments.

The walk-in centre is being labelled a "one-stop shop" for health care.

It is also intended to support the hospital's accident and emergency unit with nurses treating minor injuries.

The new centre opens tomorrow evening and will be visited by Barry Seal, chairman of the North Kirklees Primary Care Trust.

Mr Seal said: "The walk-in centre is a major step forward in the trust's plans to modernise and improve access to local health services in North Kirklees.

"We want patients to have access to good quality health care premises, so by investing in high-quality primary care we aim to give people more choice by providing options for advice, diagnosis and treatment.

"The central location will offer flexible treatment without an appointment".

The centre will initially be open from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday, but longer hours - including evenings and weekends - are planned within the next 12 months.

The centre has two consulting rooms, two treatment rooms and offices.

Typical cases for treatment will include minor wounds, blood pressure checks, illness and vomiting.
