NHS watchdog Huddersfield Community Health Council has held its last public meeting

The 12 members still had a full agenda to work through.

They discussed their response to Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust's application for foundation status, mental health issues, rumoured changes to the gynaecological wards at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary - and the winding up of the council itself.

The independent organisation which was set up in 1974 to be the patient's champion, is being axed by the Government on December 1.

Mrs Cherry Hunter, chief officer, said: "It was a sad occasion. If you really dwell on things you would cry, but you have to get on with the job and do what has to be done without thinking about it."

Officially Huddersfield CHC will close its doors in New North Parade at lunchtime on Thursday November 27.
