KIRKLEES Council and NHS Kirklees have awarded grants of £500 each for 10 projects which help people eat well and live longer.

The Change4life money encourages families to take simple steps to achieve positive results.

Dr Judith Hooper, director of public health for Kirklees Council and NHS Kirklees said preference was given to projects which targeted families with children under 12 and those which helped men over 40 to eat healthily or be more active.

Cash also went to Field Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School in Batley for a lunchbox project, as well as the Society for the Blind of Dewsbury, Batley and District pupils at Flockton C of E First School in South Kirklees and the Brunswick Centre in Kirklees.

Families at the Dalton School Pacify Group will take part in an individual tailor-made Fit4life programme which will help parents and children to become more active. There was also cash for the Patients Advisory Liaison Service and Hade Edge Junior and Infant School in Holmfirth.

Huddersfield Giants junior club plans to develop motivational projects for young people and Agewell Kirklees aims to promote healthy eating with men aged over 55 in South Kirklees by improving their basic cooking skills.
