A HEALTH worker is running a half-marathon for his mother who has breast cancer.

Patrick Clarke, of Mirfield, is pulling on his trainers and pounding the pavements for the Great North Run to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign.

His mother Patricia has fought breast cancer twice and has had a double mastectomy.

She is on the road to recovery after her last operation and Patrick wanted to raise money for a charity which supported her through difficult times.

Patrick, an NHS Direct programme manager said: “For my mum to beat breast cancer once is amazing, but twice is just incredible.

“She has been through a lot of trauma, but I am so relieved she is getting stronger each day.

“I cannot wait to run the race for her and to help contribute to the Breast Cancer Campaign’s mission to find a cure and beat breast cancer.”

Patrick will run the race in Newcastle on Sunday, October 5.

The charity he is running for is aiming to fund innovative world-class researchers to help tackle breast cancer.
