PEOPLE in Meltham are being encouraged to get healthier by taking part in new activities.
Staff at Meltham Sports and Community Centre will be starting the new year by offering curling sessions and healthy walks in a bid to get people moving.
The curling sessions will take place on Wednesday, January 12, from 10.30am until noon.
People are asked to call 01484 234095 to book a place for the sessions, which will cost £1.35.
People are also invited to take part in a 45- minute walk at 1pm on the same day.
It will start at the Safeway supermarket and end at the centre.
Michelle Bland, physical activity development officer for Kirklees Council's culture and leisure services, is leading the project.
She said: "We have been looking for new activities in the Meltham area to encourage people who do little or no activity to have a go.
"Being active can make a huge difference to your health - and it's a great way to meet people.
"We hope the activities prove popular. We are keen to encourage people to take part in walk leader training, so they can set up regular walking opportunities."
A course to train walk leaders is to take place from 10am to 4pm on Friday, February 4, at the Galpharm Stadium, Huddersfield.
