HUDDERSFIELD’S uncertain weather is again in the spotlight.

The town has seen overnight temperatures drop below freezing this week and there was even snow on the moors.

But now for the good news – a heatwave is on the way.

The weather is going to be bright this weekend after a week that saw ash clouds from Iceland ground planes, something the coldest winter for 31 years did not even manage.

Salendine Nook meteorologist Paul Stevens said: “We’ve had a week that started with snow on Monday covering the highest ground at breakfast time, with a very chilly daytime maximum of only 6°C 43°F, half what it should be this time of the year.

“Then some very low overnight temperatures at -1.3°C and a widespread air frost on Monday and Tuesday nights.

“But it’s going to change though as the winds swing south west by Friday afternoon, pushing the ash back over the Arctic and bringing warmer weather to Yorkshire.

“Through Saturday and Sunday, temperatures will soar compared to the cool of recent days and with plenty of sunshine it will feel like summer at last. We will see highs of around 17 to perhaps 20°C and that’s nearly 70°F.

“Watch out though for cooler late evenings if you’re breaking out the barbecues.”
