A HELICOPTER crashed near Huddersfield just moments after taking off.
The helicopter is owned by a man who lives at Whitley near Grange Moor.
He took off from his home at 3.40pm yesterday, but the helicopter suddenly lost power and hit a tree in a neighbour's garden as he came back down to the ground off Falhouse Lane not far from Liley Lane.
The helicopter then clipped a small wall and ended up on the ground with its rotors ploughing into the lawn.
The pilot managed to scramble clear with minor injuries.
It is understood the accident will be investigated by the RAF Distress and Diversion Unit.
Firefighters attended from Dewsbury fire station.
Crew manager Kevin Ogden said: "The helicopter came down through a tree, slicing off several branches and ended up on its side in the garden.
"We got the call as a fuel spillage. We turned the fuel off and disconnected the battery to make the helicopter safe.
"The pilot was already out when we got there."
