Police arrested three off-road bikers riding on the moors above the Holme Valley after a man was allegedly assaulted.

Officers were called to the moorlands near to the Huntsman Inn, which is off Greenfield Road, on Saturday lunchtime following allegations of the assault.

The force’s helicopter was also called in and flew low over the moors while officers made a search on the ground.

One of the suspects is believed to have dumped his bike on the moors before he was arrested.

The other two were detained close to Holme village.

All three are in their late teens or early 20s and come from Slaithwaite.

They were arrested on suspicion of assault and have been released in police bail pending further police inquiries.

The victim is not thought to have been badly hurt.

Holmfirth-based Pc Richard Foale said: “No unauthorised motor vehicles are allowed on the moors at all.

“They are a danger to walkers, livestock, wildlife and themselves should they crash and be injured at a remote spot.

“Also there is a danger their engines could spark moorland fires.”
